We take pride in our multilingualism and multiculturalism at The Renaissance International School. Our goal is to develop a global perspective, and the study of history and world cultures forms the cornerstone of our curriculum. We teach history and world cultures from age three through middle school.

International Cultural Travel

We take pride in our multilingualism and multiculturalism at The Renaissance International School. Our goal is to develop a global perspective, and the study of history and world cultures forms the cornerstone of our curriculum. We teach history and world cultures from age three through middle school.

At the Primary level, we bring world cultures to the child;

At the Elementary level, we provide the opportunity for the child to travel internationally and share an experience with their peers that allows them to witness, connect, and engage with different cultures;

At the Middle School level, the adolescent is ready and anxious to engage and collaborate with other cultures.

The International Cultural Travel Program provides Elementary and Middle Schoolers an opportunity to extend their cultural literacy outside of the school environment. Our students enjoy learning multiple languages, and this is accompanied by a yearning to continue their study of history and cultural geography, promoting an international understanding and a sense of world citizenship. The program offer an opportunity to the students to:

  • Participate in trips they have imagined and researched with their friends
  • Achieve a higher level of independence by exercising the responsibility of taking care of themselves, their peers, and their belongings for two weeks
  • Experience firsthand what they have been studying
  • Practice one of the languages spoken at TRIS – when applicable
  • Share with children from other common cultural interests.
  • Immerse themselves in the life of the culture for two weeks
  • Experience the climate, flora, and fauna of a different ecosystem or possibly ecosystems
  • Develop respect and appreciation for and a feeling of connection for their place in the human family
  • Experience and appreciate the universal elements of different cultures from theirs in:
  • Cuisine
  • Fashion
  • Architecture
  • Work
  • Community service
  • Recreation
  • Celebrations
  • Beliefs
  • Art
  • Music
  • Literature
  • Theater

Elementary and Middle School students have traveled to places such as Oaxaca, México, Hungary, and the Yucatán Peninsula in México, to name a few.

Montessori Model United Nations Program (MMUN)

As part of their well-rounded, comprehensive, and integrated education, middle and junior high students use their knowledge of geography, social studies, and language arts to participate in a year-long Montessori Model UN program to find solutions to current world issues using the format of the United Nations. Finding solutions requires a collaborative effort to problem-solve these real global issues. The year-long effort culminates in attending a conference as delegates to present their solutions and interact with peers from different countries.

“TRIS is an extraordinary opportunity. I value so many of the experiences that my children had as students at the school. They learned a lot about being contributing members of a worldwide community. This openness is reflected in how they relate and receive people around them. In communities outside of TRIS, my children have been recognized for their inclusivity and ability to meet others where they are. I attribute a lot of their perspectives to learning about the world and the people in it to their studies and experiences at TRIS.”

J. M.

“One of the things I love about TRIS is the global community. I lived overseas for my early adolescent years and -while some of that was hard- it made me a global citizen, seeing the world from a larger perspective. I absolutely loved that my daughter had teachers from so many different countries. She was able to travel with TRIS in Elementary and Middle School, which was also a gift that I believe will always enhance her perspective in her life."
